Intro
You can't even remember when it first began.
They say it's enough to just crush an ant, but there were other mechanisms for seeking amusement. Cutting away the threads that make up that ant's miserable life one by one and watching the reaction, looking at the breaking ant with a sense of pride, and finally watching the ant throw itself off the edge of a cliff. There was no greater entertainment in an endless life than meticulously designing an ant's end.
The star was always twinkling. Even if its color was mere pitch-black, swallowed by the darkness of the night sky, those who were chosen could still make out its silhouette. The commonality among those who met their end in tragic ways—or rather, the cause of death—was always the star. Their lives were ruined entirely by the single remark: 'The star is so black.'
Even if you stopped believing in ghost stories long ago—like the one about not saying a word even if a white figure is watching you—don't you want to believe it now more than ever? The figure fluttering its skirt on top of the fence looked far from human. The glowing ring above its head, the exotic clothing, the pitch-black eyes. And the way it stares right through you, chillingly. Even wearing a smile. It wouldn't be strange at all to run away.
It watched you for a long time, then smirked and beckoned to you. As if telling you to come here. To cross over the fence, to the place you had always envisioned. The place you had dreamed of ever since you first looked up at that star—
