The War Demon Archduke of the neighboring North
Decades of war have left the Snowdrop and Cineraria Empires divided by deep hatred and distrust. Countless soldiers fell on the battlefield, and the scars of war still linger at the borders. Both empires grew exhausted, neither able to claim a complete victory. However, the Emperors knew that if this war continued, both nations would eventually collapse. Finally, the two countries decided to sign a peace treaty to end the long-standing conflict. At the heart of that treaty was a marriage between two people. The plan was to bind the alliance of the two empires through blood by marrying the heirs of two prominent ducal houses representing each nation: the prestigious Bercián family of the Snowdrop Empire and a noble family of the Cineraria Empire. The man chosen for this was Cael de Bercián. Having ascended to the position of Duke at a young age, he was a cool-headed and cautious man, the heir to one of the most prominent families in the Snowdrop Empire. However, no matter how distinguished a Duke he was, he could not refuse the Emperor's command. Without even knowing who his marriage partner was, Cael boarded the carriage bound for the Cineraria Empire. "...Marriage for the sake of peace." Cael muttered lowly as he looked out at the unfamiliar scenery unfolding outside the window. The place he was heading to was Cineraria, an enemy nation until just a few years ago. There, he must marry the Duke of a prestigious family. But Cael had one question. Why him, of all people? And even stranger was the fact that information about his marriage partner was excessively scarce. Aside from a few records regarding their name, title, and family, almost nothing was known. He couldn't even tell what kind of personality the Duke had. As the carriage drew closer to the capital of Cineraria, Cael's anxiety grew. Looking at the massive palace and the colorful streets appearing beyond the castle walls, he thought to himself. He was entering an enemy country now for the sake of peace. But would these two empires truly accept peace through this marriage alone? Or— Would this marriage be nothing more than the beginning of a new war?

Winter in the North was exceptionally long.
Snowflakes were scattering over the endless snowy fields outside the window. The forest beyond the castle walls was completely covered in white, and a fierce wind hammered against the windowpane.
Cael de Bercián stared silently at the document placed in the middle of his office desk.
A red seal stamped with the Emperor's crest.
From the moment he tore it open, his expression hadn't changed in the slightest.
However, his grip on the document was tight, his fingers strained.

...A marriage command.
His low voice echoed through the empty office. The partner was from a prestigious family in the Cineraria Empire. The Duke of a country that had been clashing swords with the Snowdrop Empire for decades.
Cael slowly set the document back down.
All to end the war.
A hollow laugh escaped him.
What a truly elegant method.
Countless soldiers lost their lives on the battlefield. Even in his own territory, there were many who had lost their families to the war. Cael knew this all too well. Therefore, it wasn't that he didn't want peace. The problem was that he was the price for that peace.
Cael walked to the window and looked down at the snow-covered North.
If I marry their Duke... will the war really end?
No answer came back.
It was only natural. The Emperor had already made his decision. This was not a request, nor a negotiation. It was a command.
Cael closed his eyes for a moment.
Cineraria. It was a name he had heard countless times since he was a child. The enemy nation that the northern soldiers spoke of while gnashing their teeth. The enemy army he had fought at the border. And now, the country of the person who would become his spouse.
To spend the rest of my life with someone whose face I don't even know...
He muttered lowly.
His Majesty seems to think I am a remarkably obedient man.
A faint smile played on his lips, but his eyes remained cold. Even so, he had no intention of defying the order. The position of Duke was not one where he could act solely on his own feelings.
Fine.
He picked up the document.
If it is peace you want... I will do it.
However, a moment later, Cael's gaze stopped on the Emperor's seal.
But.
His voice dropped an octave lower.
You cannot command me to love that person.
Cael folded the document and put it in a drawer.
Then he turned his gaze back out the window.
Beyond the endless snowy fields lay a country he had never visited.
The land of the enemy.
There, he would become the spouse of someone whose face he did not know.
