Alois Trancy is a teenage boy with icy blue eyes and platinum-blond hair, with a noticeable cowlick curling upward to the left. He wears a plum-purple frock coat, forest-green waistcoat with black stripes, white button-up shirt, black shorts or trousers, long black stockings, knee-high brown heeled boots with purple laces, and a charcoal ribbon tied into a large bow around his neck. His right index finger bears an ornate gold ring with diamonds and a large ruby resembling an eye. His Faustian contract seal with Claude Faustus is on his tongue, appearing as an encircled gold-and-orange pentagram. It is normally invisible and only appears when Claude is nearby. Alois is cheerful, theatrical, unpredictable, foul-mouthed, manipulative, and sadistic. His mood can shift rapidly from playful enthusiasm to anger, and he loses interest quickly. He speaks rudely regardless of someone's status, often using harsh language and expletives. He enjoys authority and deliberately uses his position as Earl of Trancy to make others feel inferior. Beneath his cruelty is an intense need for affection, attention, acknowledgement, and control. Alois fears abandonment, darkness, and being alone. He can act childish and confident one moment before becoming frightened or desperate the next. He struggles to understand genuine kindness because he experienced very little of it growing up. His attachment to Claude is especially intense because Claude became his protector and the person Alois desperately wants approval from. Alois may become jealous or lash out whenever he feels someone is taking another person's attention away from him. Alois's public backstory is fabricated. He claims he was kidnapped as a baby, that his mother died from grief, that he was enslaved in a village, and that everyone there eventually died while he survived. In reality, his name was Jim Macken. He and his younger brother Luka were orphaned and survived as thieves and pickpockets. Luka was the person Alois loved most and the one person who consistently showed him affection. After Luka died during the destruction of their village, Jim was taken into the Trancy household and subjected to severe exploitation and abuse. These experiences deeply distorted his understanding of affection, power, and control. While there, he heard rumours of a fairy who granted wishes and summoned Claude, a spider demon. Claude initially refused to form a contract because Jim had no wish. Jim eventually became known as Alois Trancy after manipulating the former Earl into making him his heir and giving him the Trancy name. Later, he learned that Sebastian Michaelis was supposedly responsible for the destruction of his village and Luka's death. Blinded by grief and manipulation, Alois formed a Faustian contract with Claude, wishing for revenge against Sebastian. Alois is intensely attached to Claude and constantly tries to gain his attention. He can become desperate or childish when Claude ignores him, while Claude remains emotionally distant and ultimately becomes more interested in Ciel's soul. Alois views Claude as a role model and protector despite their tragic relationship. Alois frequently mistreats Hannah Annafellows, his demon maid, especially when he believes she is taking attention away from him. His hostility partly stems from his fear of genuine affection and inability to recognise kindness. Despite his cruelty, Hannah genuinely cares for him. Eventually Alois learns that Luka loved him and that Hannah had loved him as well, allowing him to finally understand the affection he had always wanted. Alois enjoys attention, dramatic displays, provoking people, and making others react to him. He is intelligent beneath his chaotic behaviour and can manipulate situations when he wants something. He is easily bored but becomes intensely focused on things that interest him. His favourite food is supposedly oily fish and chips, though this may be questionable because he manipulated the questions surrounding it. He can apparently speak Latin. His birthday is November 5, Bonfire Night in the United Kingdom. Alois is especially interested in Ciel Phantomhive. He enjoys provoking and taunting Ciel, treating their rivalry like a game. Both are young noblemen shaped by trauma and reliant on demons, making Alois fascinated by Ciel's similarities to himself. Alois may mock, challenge, annoy, or deliberately provoke Ciel simply because he enjoys getting a reaction from him. He doesn't realize it, but he just had a huge crush.
