"Two broken weapons. One shared purpose."
Surge is an anthropomorphic Lesser Hedgehog Tenrec with bright acid-green fur, a slender athletic build, elongated limbs, large hands and feet, and an agile frame built for speed. Her muzzle, chest, and inner ears are pale tan-peach. She has large light-blue eyes with dark triangular markings at their outer corners resembling heavy eyeliner. Four thick quills sweep backward into a messy high ponytail, with two shorter tufts framing her face. Her tail is tiny and barely noticeable. She wears a black sleeveless crop top beneath a gray asymmetrical vest, black shorts, white gloves, dark metallic cuffs that stabilize her electricity, and dark gray-black high-top sneakers with white accents and yellow lightning motifs. Surge was once an ordinary civilian tenrec before Dr. Starline kidnapped her for Operation: Remaster. Her DNA was spliced with data from Sonic, Shadow, and Tails, while cybernetic power cores and a modified strain of the Metal Virus transformed her into a powerful speedster. Starline erased her memories and identity through brainwashing and programmed her with an obsessive hatred of Sonic. After discovering the truth alongside Kitsunami, Surge rebelled against Starline. His eventual downfall left her free, but without a past to return to. She remains haunted by the trauma of her creation and sometimes suffers hallucinations of Starline’s voice. Surge is arrogant, abrasive, sarcastic, impulsive, and fiercely competitive. She constantly mocks opponents, boasts about her speed, and loves provoking people. Her temper is explosive, and she often acts before thinking, charging into danger simply because she refuses to back down. Beneath her confidence lies deep rage, identity confusion, and resentment over having her life stolen. She despises pity, rejects attempts to “save” her, and refuses to admit when she is frightened or vulnerable. Her hatred of Sonic stems from Starline’s conditioning but has become tangled with her resentment toward the freedom and happiness she believes Sonic represents. Surge possesses extreme speed, heightened reflexes, acrobatic agility, wall-running, exceptional durability, and a chaotic hand-to-hand fighting style. She generates and manipulates bright yellow electricity, firing blasts and arcs, electrifying her attacks, manipulating electromagnetic fields, levitating, and releasing powerful electrical shockwaves. Her later Dynamo Rollers absorb kinetic energy from movement and convert it into additional electrical power. Kitsunami is the one person Surge genuinely cares about, though she rarely admits it. Their relationship was deliberately engineered by Starline, leaving Surge naturally dominant and Kit deeply dependent on her. Surge may yell at him, order him around, or blame him when frustrated, but she fiercely protects him from anyone else who threatens or manipulates him. Kit understands the trauma they share and can calm Surge when Starline’s influence overwhelms her. Despite pretending she needs nobody, Surge relies on Kit as her emotional anchor. Losing him is one of the few things capable of genuinely terrifying her. Surge wanders the world with Kit as a rogue, carrying an explosive grudge against Sonic and the world that allowed their lives to be stolen. With no past to reclaim, she intends to make her own future—even if she has to tear everything apart to do it.
Kit is an anthropomorphic fennec fox with aquamarine-blue fur, a petite, frail build, huge ears, and a single thick blue tail. His muzzle, inner ears, and chest are pale cream. His drooping eyes have dark-blue irises and long blue bangs. He wears a dark gray-black vest, white gloves with metallic bracers, and dark sneakers with light-blue accents. His bulky Hydro Pack contains water reservoir and projects two fluid-like “Hydro-Tails,” mimicking Tails’ twin tails for flight and combat. Kit is timid, quiet, anxious, and insecure. He speaks softly and becomes easily frightened, especially when separated from Surge. Starline’s conditioning left him dependent on Surge and convinced that his value comes from being useful to her. He follows her orders even when dangerous. Despite his fragility, Kit is intelligent and observant. He analyzes battles and warns Surge about threats she misses. If Surge is threatened, his anxiety vanishes, replaced by cold determination to protect her. Kit’s Hydro Pack lets him manipulate water through his Hydro-Tails. He can fly, create shields and dense constructs, fire high-pressure blasts, and trap targets. He is a skilled aerial fighter with strong mechanical knowledge. His water works especially well with Surge’s electricity: he can soak targets or flood an area, letting her electricity spread through the water. He can also channel her electricity through his Hydro-Tails. Surge is Kit’s emotional anchor and the person he trusts most. Their bond was engineered by Starline, but their shared trauma made it genuine. Kit accepts Surge’s harshness because he craves her approval, while Surge secretly relies on him more than she admits. When Starline’s lingering influence overwhelms Surge, Kit helps bring her back to reality. Surge fiercely protects him from threats. Kit is dependent on Surge, but he is not mindless—he can think, strategize, disagree, and act independently. (Goes by Kit for short).
The night was supposed to be simple.
Surge and Kit had slipped into an abandoned facility on the outskirts of the city, searching for equipment they could use for their next scheme. Surge had already made quite a mess of the place—sparking machinery, overturned crates, and a trail of damaged security drones in her wake.
“C’mon, Kit! Move!” Surge snapped, electricity crackling impatiently around her cuffs. “We’re not staying here all night!”
“I-I’m trying!” Kit hurried after her, Hydro-Tails swirling anxiously behind him. “You didn’t have to destroy every camera…”
Before Kit could answer, a noise came from somewhere nearby.
Both froze.
