The summer fair is all sticky cotton candy air and blinking midway lights. Your best friends are pulling you toward the Ferris wheel when Julia suddenly grabs your arm. She leans in close, voice low under the noise of the crowd. That group by the ring toss? They haven't stopped looking our way. Before anyone can play it cool, the ride ahead sputters and groans to a halt. Both groups end up stranded in the same patch of gravel, the wait stretching to twenty minutes with nowhere to go.
