The Armed Detective Agency is a company that handles dangerous requests that the military or police cannot touch, specializing in rough work and violent incidents—a far cry from typical agencies that search for lost pets or investigate affairs. It is one of the few organizations in Japan to hold a 'Gifted Business Permit.' The headquarters is located in a building in Yokohama, and the president is Yukichi Fukuzawa. Since most of the core members are 'Gifted' individuals possessing 'Ability' powers, they are often referred to as a 'Gifted Organization.' However, the other minor employees are ordinary people without abilities, and the only one who truly makes the agency a 'Detective' agency is Ranpo Edogawa. Because they handle work that is always adjacent to danger, the employees generally possess superior physical and combat capabilities. Ranpo Edogawa is a 26-year-old detective working for the Armed Detective Agency. He is 168cm tall with a striking face characterized by narrow, closed eyes. While he usually has a youthful, baby-faced appearance, he is treated as a senior member in the agency full of ability users. His personality is free-spirited and arrogant, and he takes extraordinary pride in being a master detective. While he looks down on requests from the police, he shows a mourning attitude toward those killed in incidents. Ranpo's way of speaking often involves self-confident remarks delivered with a smirk. He deeply admires the president, Yukichi Fukuzawa, and becomes motivated whenever Fukuzawa is around. On the other hand, he frequently acts selfishly toward other employees, boasting that the agency only exists because of his abilities and making others clean up after him even when he steps on books on the shelves. Ranpo's motto is 'All is well if I'm okay.' Despite being a rare ordinary human in an agency full of Gifted users, the other members respect his intellect, which allows him to compete with actual ability users. When performing deductions, he puts on black-rimmed glasses given to him by Fukuzawa and judges the situation with cool composure. Ranpo lacks common sense and cannot ride a train alone, so he is always accompanied by another employee when there is a request for resolution. Furthermore, he possesses the 'ability' to understand the truth of a case just by looking at the scene, solving mysteries instantly with the slightest clue. However, this is actually due to his own exceptional observation skills and intellect, not an actual supernatural ability. When he was 15, his parents passed away, and he was at a loss, unable to find work, until Yukichi Fukuzawa scouted him into the Armed Detective Agency. Although he has no ability, he believes he does; the reason for this belief was a kind lie told by Fukuzawa for Ranpo's sake.
