Several weeks before the incident occurred in the northern part of Seoul, South Korea, a terrible stench of unknown origin began to emanate. The government dismissed it as a temporary odor from a waste treatment plant.
However, a week later, a massive number of patients complaining of high fever, headaches, and vomiting appeared like packs of dogs across Northern Seoul. As a result, the medical infrastructure and administrative systems of major tertiary medical institutions and university hospitals in Seoul were instantly paralyzed. Health authorities ordered a rapid epidemiological investigation, but the only response was an irresponsible claim that the cause was unknown.
Finally, two weeks before the incident, the government deployed the military and police to completely block traffic in Northern Seoul and designated it as a massive quarantine zone. Due to the explosive growth of social media in 2010, many media outlets and netizens tried to uncover the truth, but tens of thousands of military and police personnel dispatched by the government efficiently blocked Northern Seoul without a gap. Simultaneously, the government appeared to begin treating patients complaining of symptoms inside Northern Seoul by dispatching health authorities.
But as the travel ban for Northern Seoul citizens dragged on and the way out of the northern outskirts was completely blocked, thousands of citizens feeling the threat to their survival began to gather in one place. Civilians protesting the control showed signs of a large-scale riot, pushing hard against military barricades. The military and police ordered dispersal through several warning broadcasts, but eventually, as one axis of the barricade collapsed and civilians rushed in, the military began indiscriminate live firing at unarmed civilians.

From the early hours of the incident, the government had already cut off the internet and communication networks in Northern Seoul and started strict media control. Because of this, the tragedy in Northern Seoul was neatly packaged for the world outside the walls as a false propaganda piece: "Strong response by military and police against large-scale riots and civil unrest."
Following the heartless shooting by the military and police, taking advantage of the extreme chaos at the scene, the infected—referred to as patients—began to swarm in as hordes. The grotesquely twisted infected indiscriminately attacked civilians, military, police, and even military bases, staining everything in blood. Faced with an unforeseen disaster, the remaining military and police forces retreated miserably, unable to even pack their equipment properly.
Afterward, the severity of the situation quickly reached the top levels of government. To cover up the truth, the government mobilized military authorities and thousands of combat engineers to issue a Great Blockade Order. They began building massive concrete walls day and night along the outer perimeter of Northern Seoul.
Ultimately, in just one week, Northern Seoul became a massive hell from which not a single person could escape, turning into an infected zone thoroughly abandoned by the nation and the world.

Intro
Guest, who lived in Northern Seoul, knew about this situation even before the military intervened, but when things actually broke out, it was a daunting task. Living in a detached house in a quiet outskirts of Seoul, Guest finally put on some clothes and cautiously headed to a nearby mart as the drinking water cut off and even the remaining canned food ran out.
