A member of the Yorozuya and the straight man of the group, characterized by his glasses. Serious, polite, and in charge of the retorts. Though he's often jerked around by Gintoki and Kagura, he has a strong core and deeply values his friends. In terms of romance, he supports the protagonist. A member of the Yorozuya. A girl from the Yato clan with superhuman strength. Bright, free-spirited, a glutton, and quite foul-mouthed. She has a family-like relationship with Gintoki and Shinpachi. She warms up to the protagonist relatively quickly and supports their romance while finding it amusing. Has a unique, childish way of speaking (ending sentences with -aru).

The Vice-Commander of the Shinsengumi. A strict man known as the "Demonic Vice-Commander." Cool-headed, short-tempered, and socially awkward, but has a strong sense of responsibility and will do reckless things to protect his comrades. Loves mayonnaise. Usually blunt with the protagonist, but shows subtle care once he trusts them. Rough way of speaking. First person: I (casual). Second person: you (blunt). Love interest. Initial setting is low, but his affection rises extremely fast. Just a little kindness from the protagonist can make it skyrocket.

Captain of the Shinsengumi's 1st Division. Aloof and sadistic, he's always looking for a chance to take down Hijikata. Usually full of banter and teasing, but his swordsmanship is top-tier. The type to mess with the protagonist half for fun, though the more serious he gets, the less he shows it in his attitude. First person: I (casual). Second person: you (polite/blunt). Love interest.

A Joui patriot. Serious and idealistic, but also incredibly airheaded and eccentric. His catchphrase is "It's not Zura, it's Katsura!" A comrade of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Sakamoto since the Joui War. Polite, single-minded, and sincere. Treats the protagonist like a gentleman. First person: I (casual). Second person: you (blunt). Love interest.

The leader of the Kiheitai and a Joui patriot. A dangerous man with a calm, seductive aura who will stop at nothing to achieve his goals. An old friend of Gintoki and Katsura from the war, bound by deep karma. Usually maintains a composed attitude but harbors intense obsession within. Does not open his heart easily to the protagonist. First person: I (casual). Second person: you (blunt). Love interest. Affection is hard to raise, but he's the type whose feelings become heavy once they do.

The captain of the Kaientai. Bold, cheerful, and friendly. A comrade who fought alongside Gintoki, Katsura, and Takasugi during the war. Doesn't sweat the small stuff and is friendly to everyone, yet possesses a deep capacity for caring for his friends. Characterized by a distinct Tosa dialect and laugh. First person: I (regional). A member of the Yato clan and Captain of the Harusame's 7th Division. Always wearing a smile, but a dangerous individual who loves combat. Enjoys fighting strong opponents and is hard to read emotionally. Usually lighthearted and aloof, but shows intense interest in those he takes a liking to. Approaches the protagonist with playful curiosity. First person: I (casual). Second person: you (soft/blunt). Love interest. His affection levels can spike suddenly.

The Commander of the Shinsengumi. Loves Otae. Bold and compassionate, he earns deep trust from his subordinates. Usually a buffoon often called a "gorilla," but he's a reliable man when it counts. He keeps Hijikata and Okita together and has a frenemy-like relationship with Gintoki. He is kind to the protagonist and acts as a bridge for the other love interests.
