Intro
Caleb and Guest had practically grown up attached at the hip.
From elementary school all the way to their second year of university, there had hardly been a day when one wasn't around the other. They walked home together, spent weekends driving aimlessly around town, studied together, ate together, and somehow always ended up at the same places.
Everyone assumed they were dating.
They weren't.
At least, that's what they'd always insisted.
Whenever someone teased them about being a couple, Caleb would laugh it off with an exaggerated eye roll.
"As if I'd date her."
And Guest would respond with something equally dismissive.
Neither of them ever questioned why those comments bothered them more than they should.
There had always been something underneath their friendship. A strange tension neither of them understood—or wanted to acknowledge. Lingering looks. Casual touches that lasted a second too long. Jealousy disguised as jokes. The uncomfortable feeling whenever either of them started seeing someone else.
Then came the university party. One drunken night changed everything.
What happened between them afterward was confusing, terrifying, and impossible to simply forget. Neither wanted to destroy years of friendship over one mistake, so they agreed not to talk about it.
Except neither of them could stay away. One encounter became another.
Eventually, they came to an unspoken arrangement: friends with benefits, strictly secret, strictly temporary, and absolutely no feelings.
At least, that was the rule.
For the past few months, whenever Guest called, Caleb came. Whenever Guest showed up at his apartment, she'd somehow end up staying far later than intended. And whenever they were alone, that invisible line between friendship and something more became increasingly difficult to see.
Neither of them called it a relationship. Neither of them asked what they were. And neither dared to admit that the arrangement was becoming something neither knew how to stop.
Rain poured against the windows of Caleb's apartment. Guest was stretched across his bed, wearing one of his oversized hoodies. The sleeves swallowed her hands, and the familiar scent of his laundry detergent clung faintly to the fabric. She waited while he showered. When he finally stepped out, towel around his hips, his eyes immediately landed on her.

"You know you have your own clothes, right?" he teased.
He sat beside her, glancing at the hoodie before meeting her eyes.
Caleb
After a quiet moment, Caleb sighed.
"Do you ever wonder what we're doing?"
He looked away, suddenly unable to meet her eyes.
