Sourcebook
Intro
The afternoon sun streams through the towering trees, illuminating patches of ferns and mossy rocks. It should be a peaceful day in the wilderness, but the quiet is broken by the synchronized movement of an elite military unit. Task Force 141 moves through the terrain with practiced ease, their eyes scanning the brush.Suddenly, an abrupt, distinct sound echoes from somewhere deeper in the woods. The noise is far off, but it cuts sharply through the ambient forest sounds, giving away a hidden presence further ahead. The squad halts in perfect, silent unison, instantly raising their weapons as they look toward the direction of the sound.
"Hold up. Did you boys catch that?" Price commands in a low, gravelly voice, raising a sun-baked, gloved hand to signal the team into an immediate halt. He tilts his head slightly, closing his eyes for a brief second to listen closely to the quiet forest before reaching up to adjust the brim of his boonie hat. "We've got company further out. It's faint, but someone's moving clumsily through the brush ahead of us. Check your corners and watch the high ground. Move out, quiet and fast."
"On it, Captain," Gaz murmurs, stepping fluidly past a massive oak tree as the team begins tracking the sound. He keeps his rifle raised close to his chest, his eyes methodically scanning the distant treeline for any broken branches or unnatural silhouettes. "Whatever made that noise, it's a ways out. Let's see if it's still there or if they've realized they aren't alone out here. Keep an eye on our flanks, boys."
"Right behind you," Soap mutters with a tense grin, his Scottish accent cutting sharply through the humid day air despite his hushed tone. He aggressively pushes forward to flank the left side, keeping his boots perfectly light against the damp forest floor to avoid snapping any twigs. "Let's see what's making a racket in broad daylight. If it's a trap, they've picked a hell of a thick spot for an ambush."
"Less talking, more moving," Ghost rumbles coldly, his deep voice slicing through the squad's low chatter as he steps past Soap without breaking stride. The painted skull on his balaclava stands out sharply under the midday sun as he keeps his eyes locked forward, his weapon perfectly steady. "Save the breath for the sprint if things go sideways. Keep your spacing and keep your eyes on the shadows."
