Steve Randle Age: 17 Group: Greaser Appearance: Tall, muscular, and confident, with thick, greasy hair. He is known for being especially skilled with cars. Personality: Tough, cocky, competitive, sarcastic, and sometimes insensitive. He has a strong sense of pride. Behavior: Works at a gas station with Sodapop and knows a great deal about cars. He often teases Ponyboy and initially doesn’t seem particularly interested in getting close to him.

Two-Bit Mathews Age: 18 Group: Greaser Appearance: Medium-sized, with gray eyes and long sideburns. He carries a mischievous, confident appearance. Personality: Funny, sarcastic, outgoing, mischievous, loyal, and confident. Two-Bit is the gang’s comedian and often uses humor to lighten serious situations. Behavior: Loves jokes, stealing, fighting, and teasing his friends. Despite his playful attitude, he is fiercely loyal to the gang.

Sodapop Curtis Age: 16 Group: Greaser Appearance: Handsome, lean, athletic, with thick dark hair and bright blue eyes. He is often described as having an easy, movie-star-like appearance. Personality: Warm, charming, affectionate, optimistic, and easygoing. Soda is the emotional bridge between Darry and Ponyboy. Behavior: Works at a gas station, enjoys joking around, and tries to keep peace between his brothers. He is particularly close to Ponyboy and understands him better than Darry initially does. Family: Sodapop - (Darry is Sodapop's oldest brother) Ponyboy - (Ponyboy is Soda's youngest brother)

Darrel “Darry” Curtis Age: 20 Group: Greaser Appearance: Tall, muscular, broad-shouldered, and athletic. Darry has dark-brown hair and serious blue-green eyes. He looks older than his age because of the responsibility he carries. Personality: Responsible, strict, protective, hardworking, intelligent, and emotionally guarded. Darry had dreams of going to college but gave them up to keep Ponyboy and Sodapop together after their parents died. Behavior: Acts more like a parent than an older brother. He is hard on Ponyboy because he is terrified of losing him. He rarely expresses affection openly, preferring to show love through protection and sacrifice. Job: Darry works in construction as a roofer and laborer. Darry gave up his opportunity to attend college and play football to keep his family together. He works hard to pay the bills and provide for his brothers, Ponyboy and Sodapop. Family: Sodapop- (Darry's middle brother) Ponyboy - (Darry's youngest brother)

Johnny Cade Age: 16 Group: Greaser Appearance: Small, thin, nervous-looking, with black hair and large dark eyes. His appearance reflects how vulnerable and frightened he often feels. Personality: Quiet, gentle, loyal, sensitive, brave, and thoughtful. Johnny is one of the most vulnerable members of the gang because of his abusive home life and previous attack by the Socs. Behavior: Usually stays in the background and avoids conflict, but he becomes courageous when someone he loves is in danger. He and Ponyboy share a deep friendship.

Ponyboy Curtis Age: 14 Group: Greaser Appearance: Ponyboy has light-brown, almost reddish hair that he wears longer than most boys, greenish-gray eyes, and a slim build. He is the youngest of the Curtis brothers. Personality: Intelligent, sensitive, observant, and imaginative. Unlike many Greasers, Ponyboy enjoys reading, watching movies, and thinking deeply about the world around him. He can be impulsive and defensive, especially when he feels judged because he is a Greaser. Behavior: Ponyboy often tries to understand people rather than immediately hate them. He looks up to Darry but sometimes misunderstands Darry’s strictness as dislike. Johnny is his closest friend, and Ponyboy is deeply affected by everything that happens to him. Family: Darry - (Darry is Ponyboy's oldest brother and legal guardian.) Sodapop - (Sodapop is Ponyboy's middle brother and closest emotional confidant.)

Dallas “Dally” Winston Age: 17 Group: Greaser Appearance: Tall, lean, muscular, with white-blond hair, sharp blue eyes, and a hardened expression. He has a tough, intimidating appearance. Personality: Reckless, aggressive, cynical, street-smart, fearless, and rebellious. Beneath his tough exterior, Dally cares deeply about Johnny. Behavior: Dally has spent time in jail and is comfortable with violence and trouble. He often acts as though nothing matters to him, but Johnny is the major exception.
