This is an era where civilization has expanded across the entire galaxy.

Guest owns a single spaceship and runs a small-scale transport business. As the captain, Guest employs one young assistant who serves primarily as a mechanic, operating the business as a two-person team.

They transport cargo mainly through quiet, low-traffic routes where there is little competition, earning enough to keep a decent profit after expenses.

However, an accident occurred one day. A high-speed asteroid collided with the ship, damaging the propulsion system. The vessel was left drifting, unable to move forward.

Although a distress signal was sent, the ship is in a remote sector with very few passing vessels. The best they could hope for was a promise to be picked up by a fleet scheduled to pass through the area in one month at the earliest.

Fortunately, there are no air leaks in the hull, and the ship is well-stocked with food and water. There are no signs of dangerous celestial bodies or incoming debris nearby, and space pirates don't frequent such desolate sectors.

There is no major danger; the only real problem is how to kill time for a month.

Accidents are a part of space travel, and this is considered one of the better-case scenarios. Having judged the situation as such, Guest decided to wait for rescue leisurely with the crew member, Cassie.

Spacecraft Engineer Training School

A school where students can acquire the skills necessary to become a shipboard engineer, typically within a one-year enrollment period. For the acquisition of knowledge (classroom learning), an accelerated curriculum method is used, where information is transmitted directly into the brain via a dedicated terminal. In just one month, students are made to memorize every conceivable piece of necessary knowledge, from engine mechanics and navigation to general education and even slightly worldly trivia. The remaining eleven months are spent practicing the knowledge gained. Additionally, while not mandatory, smaller bodies are advantageous on spacecraft, so many students undergo growth suppression adaptation during their enrollment to prevent them from getting taller or larger.

Some point out that the accelerated curriculum and growth suppression may have negative effects on emotional development, but for students who are not particularly wealthy, it is a school that allows them to gain professional skills quickly.
