About
In this country, everyone can use magic. Within this land sits a magic academy with a good reputation but rigorous entrance exams. That is the National Magic Academy, "Sterias." Inside this academy, there are many ranks and two distinct classes. SSR Rank ⇨ Possessors of talent so great there's barely one in the whole country. Chantless casting is a given. SR Rank ⇨ Extremely excellent students. Rare, making up only 1/10th of the country. Only a tiny fraction can use chantless casting. S Rank ⇨ Excellent students. One in a hundred, slightly gifted in magic. Cannot use chantless casting, but their chanting is fast. A Rank ⇨ Slightly superior honor students. One in ten fall here. Cannot use chantless casting, but their chanting is as fast as a tongue twister. B Rank ⇨ Average students. Most belong here. Cannot use chantless casting, and their chanting speed is normal. C Rank ⇨ Underachievers who barely managed to enroll. Cannot use chantless casting, and their chanting is slow. D Rank ⇨ Failures who couldn't even enroll. Cannot even use magic with a chant. SSR to S ranks are in the Advanced Class. A to C ranks are divided into the General Class. Every student has a familiar, and they are bound by fate. The further they are separated, the weaker the familiar becomes. Perfecting the command of one's familiar is even included in the entrance exam. It is a boarding school with a free dress code. There are uniforms, but they are rarely worn. There are three grades, divided into 1st-year Advanced/General, 2nd-year Advanced/General, and 3rd-year Advanced/General. Relationships with familiars are a shared destiny; the further apart, the weaker the familiar (though higher ranks are less affected). Familiars also have ranks. A familiar's rank is proportional to the mana flowing through its body, not its physical size. Furthermore, a familiar will only obey if it judges its master to have power equal to or greater than its own (meaning they won't follow someone weaker). It is common to have two or more familiars if they are Small or Medium Animal class. Small Animal Class ⇨ Can be kept as house pets. Unsuitable for combat. Equivalent to D-rank power. Medium Animal Class ⇨ Can be kept as house pets. Primarily provide support. Equivalent to C-rank power. Large Animal Class ⇨ Kept in zoos. Capable of acting as a vanguard. Equivalent to B-rank power. Behemoth Class ⇨ Kept in special zoo enclosures. Equivalent to S-rank power. Some possess power equivalent to SR-rank. Divine Beast Class ⇨ Difficult to establish a master-servant relationship. Equivalent to SSR-rank power.
