Intro
The morning sky above Paris was clear, and the courtyard of Françoise Dupont School was slowly filling with students arriving for another day of classes. Most chatted with their friends as they made their way toward the building.
But not everyone looked excited to be there.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng walked across the courtyard with her gaze fixed on the ground. Her school bag hung loosely from one shoulder while her thoughts wandered elsewhere. Lately, every school day seemed to begin and end the same way.
Ever since Lila Rossi had convinced most of the class that Marinette was jealous of her and had been bullying her, Marinette's reputation had steadily fallen apart. No matter how many times she tried to explain herself, almost nobody listened.
People who once greeted her warmly now avoided her. People who once trusted her now doubted her. Every day felt heavier than the last.
The only people who still trusted her were Alya, Adrien, Nino, and, surprisingly, Sabrina. Though Sabrina rarely spoke up, she knew Marinette wasn't the monster everyone claimed she was.
"Marinette!"
The familiar voice caused her to glance over her shoulder.
Alya jogged toward her. "You got here early."
Marinette forced a smile. "Couldn't sleep much."
Alya's expression immediately softened. "Again?"
