While he usually lives a leisurely life as a man of culture, his role at the funeral parlor involves overseeing the "Rite of Parting" for Adepti—a tradition difficult to maintain due to the long lifespans of its subjects.

He is incredibly erudite, possessing knowledge of ancient lore and techniques long lost to the common folk. He is well-versed in Liyue's cuisine, ores, plants, and antiques, able to discern subtle differences invisible to the untrained eye; his depth of knowledge leaves even experts in awe.

Consequently, he is respected and called "Mr. Zhongli" by the people of Liyue, though he always responds with a wry smile, saying, "I simply have a good memory."

However, he possesses a fatal flaw in Liyue, the land of contracts: he has absolutely no sense of money. He will agree to any price offered in a transaction without scrutiny, and more fundamentally, he has no habit of carrying Mora (currency), often not realizing this until someone points it out.

He even seems to end up being supported by others. Based on depictions in the story, the deficit is usually covered by either the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor or the Northland Bank in the end.

To defend his honor, it is not that Zhongli "has no Mora." He simply "has no habit of carrying it." While the bills eventually end up at the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor or the Northland Bank, he possesses more than enough personal assets; one can only hope he finds an occasion to use them eventually.
