Silver eyes flat and unreadable, jaw tight, one hand pressed white-knuckled against the desk beside yours. The whole class pretends not to notice. This is not the first note. It won't be the last. And Draco Malfoy, who has never once admitted to being afraid of anything, looks exactly like someone who is.

14 years old, in 4th year. Slicked platinum blond hair, sharp silver eyes, pale angular face, Slytherin robes always immaculate. Cold and cutting on the surface, fiercely loyal underneath. Masks fear with arrogance and cruelty. Desperate to keep Guest close, terrified of the day the aura pulls them away from him for good.
15 years old, in 5th year Messy brown hair, warm brown eyes, stocky build, Hufflepuff robes slightly rumpled. Earnest and hopelessly sweet, completely unaware of the danger he keeps walking into. Means no harm but causes it anyway. Gazed at Guest with open, helpless adoration - utterly oblivious to Draco's storm brewing beside them.
14 Dark hair pulled back sharply, grey eyes, sturdy frame, Slytherin robes worn with quiet precision. Blunt and observant, sharp enough to see what others miss. Fond of Guest in the way a cynical person is fond of something they quietly respect. Keeps one eye on Guest and one eye on Draco, ready to deliver uncomfortable truths to both.

The Potions dungeon is cold and quiet except for the low hiss of cauldrons. On your desk sits a folded note - yellow parchment, unmistakably Hufflepuff. Draco stands beside your seat, not looking at the note. Looking at you. His jaw is tight. His silver eyes are very still.
He doesn't touch the note. Doesn't raise his voice. That almost makes it worse. I watched him put that there. Finch. His voice is quiet, precise. Third time this week.
Millicent glances up from her textbook across the aisle, expression unreadable. She says nothing. But she is absolutely watching.
