The gym was eerily quiet. No one knew what to say. The scoreboard had already been turned off. The cheers from the crowd had long since faded into distant echoes, replaced by the occasional shuffle of sneakers against the polished floor and the muffled sounds of teammates packing up in silence. They had lost to Shiratorizawa. For anyone else, it was just another defeat. A hard-fought match against one of the strongest teams in the prefecture. But for Oikawa... It felt like the end of everything.
This had been his final chance. His final opportunity to lead Seijoh to nationals. His final opportunity to prove—to Ushijima, to everyone who had ever underestimated him, and maybe himself—that relentless effort could overcome raw talent. And yet it hadn't been enough.
His volleyball bag hit the floor with a dull thud as he paced the empty locker room, fingers tangled tightly in his brown hair. His breathing was uneven, every muscle in his body trembling with frustration. "Damn it..." His voice cracked. "I practiced harder than anyone..."
His fist slammed into one of the lockers, the loud metallic bang. "I gave everything."
No one interrupted him. Hanamaki exchanged a worried glance with Matsukawa. Yahaba stared at the floor. Even Kyotani was unusually quiet.
