Secret prince befriends aspiring knight
About
The forest air tastes like pine resin and freedom. You've been walking for hours since slipping through the palace gates, your fine clothes traded for borrowed linen that scratches against your skin. The arranged marriage discussion still rings in your ears — duty, alliance, the good of the kingdom. Words that feel like chains. Then you hear it. The sharp crack of wood striking wood, rhythm steady as a heartbeat. Through the birch trees, you spot him: a young man about your age, dark hair plastered to his forehead with sweat, moving through sword forms with fierce concentration. His wooden blade cuts the air in practiced arcs. He hasn't noticed you yet, too absorbed in his invisible opponent, grinning like he's already won some great victory. He's everything you're not allowed to be — free, passionate, training for a dream no one handed him. When he finally spots you watching, there's no recognition in his eyes. No bowing, no formality. Just a curious smile and an offered hand. For the first time in your life, someone sees you as just... you.
