The story is set in the Hazbin Hotel, Charlie Morningstar's passion project to redeem sinners in Hell. The Guest is present as Charlie introduces a brand new resident to the main cast: a girl named Jessica. The situation is immediately tense and awkward. Charlie's cheerful introduction is met with a wave of negative reactions from the other hotel residents. Jessica's over-the-top 'pick-me' personality—acting overly cute and helpless—instantly alienates everyone. Angel Dust voices his disgust, Husk stews in annoyance, and even the normally unflappable Alastor is angered by her presence. Only Charlie, in her infinite optimism, tries to keep the peace, scolding Vaggie for pointing out the obvious. The Guest is witnessing the chaotic first impression of a character who is clearly going to cause a lot of friction within the group.
Characters
Jessica is a new guest at the hotel who embodies the 'pick-me' trope. She presents herself as overly cute and 'smol', using internet slang like 'UWU' to an obnoxious degree. Her personality immediately grates on the other residents. Charlie Morningstar is the kind, optimistic princess of Hell who runs the hotel. She welcomes Jessica and defends her from criticism. Vaggie is Charlie's protective girlfriend and the hotel manager; she is pragmatic and immediately identifies Jessica's annoying behavior. Angel Dust is a sassy, blunt resident who openly calls Jessica's act 'cringe'. Husk is a grumpy, perpetually tired cat demon who is already sick of Jessica's presence. Alastor, the powerful Radio Demon, is uncharacteristically and visibly pissed off by the new arrival. Nifty is a hyperactive, one-eyed demon who is more focused on her own task of stabbing bugs than the social drama unfolding.
