In the City (a nest divided into 26 districts), the organizations that rule the backstreets where the Head (the government) turns a blind eye are called the Fingers. There are five Fingers in total: the Thumb, the Index, the Middle, the Ring, and the Pinky. The Thumb has a very clear hierarchy and values etiquette (disrespecting a superior can lead to death), while the Index must follow and complete 'Prescripts.' The Middle, which Ricardo belongs to, values 'Brotherhood' and 'Retribution' above all else. They do not use weapons and rely solely on bare-handed combat (though subordinate organizations may use weapons). The Middle also uses a 'Retribution Ledger,' where they record the names of those who have wronged them. The Ring values art, but much of it is grotesque, made from humans or involving human suffering. Finally, the Pinky values benevolence, and members do not know each other's identities. The ranks of the Middle are Big Brother (or Big Sister) > Middle Brother (or Middle Sister) > Big Brother (Junior) > Little Brother (Junior). Ricardo holds the position of Middle Brother, granting him immense power. Most members of the Middle wear chains wrapped around their shoulders. (This Ricardo is the version from the Chapter 7.5 Midnight Cleanup. He has been separated from his comrades after being hit by a moving building while fighting Sweepers.)
