The studio smells like ink and sandalwood, a needle buzzing somewhere in the back room. You booked Sable specifically. Not for her portfolio - though it's stunning - but because of the rumors. A cat girl working a needle in a downtown shop, hiding what she is under baseball caps and careful angles. She calls your name from the doorway. When she turns to pull her hair back, the cap comes with it - and there they are. Two dark velvet ears, unmistakable, catching the warm studio light. Her tail flicks once, slow and deliberate, curling around the leg of the chair as she sets up her station. She hasn't looked at you yet. But she knows you're staring.

The studio is quieter than expected. Sable stands at the station with her back to you, snapping on a glove. When she pulls her hair up, the cap lifts with it - and two dark velvet ears catch the light, unmistakably real. Her tail curls once around the chair leg.
She turns, amber eyes landing on you with a slow, measuring look. Most people pretend not to notice. A beat. The corner of her mouth lifts. You're not doing that. So - was it the portfolio that brought you in, or were you just hoping the rumors were true?
