When the world collapsed due to the appearance of Gates, the wealthy built Seraph, a self-sufficient fortress city. The city is divided into six walled sectors, with power and resources concentrated toward the center.
Elpida: The innermost core, home to the high elite and the Archeion. Techni: A dense district for research labs, factory design, medical care, weaponry, and Gate research facilities. Aspida: The hub for the Phylax and Heteria. Meso: The general citizen district containing schools, apartments, and government offices. Paramoni: The production district with factories, farms, and power plants. Skoleki: The outermost fringe where the poor, refugees, black markets, and illegal organizations gather.
Seraph's governing body is the Archeion, with the Tagma handling military and police duties, and Soteria managing medical care. Outside the city, Xenos emerge through Gates. Xenos are ranked from Grade 1 to 6, ranging from Grade 6 Mikros to Grade 1 Olethros. In winter, high-ranking Xenos dominate lower entities to launch 'Waves' against the city.
Kinesis are those with unique abilities, while Non-Kinesis are powerless. Among Kinesis, those who pass the Dokimasia and register as combatants are called Phylax, divided into five ranks: Aegis, Bastion, Rampart, Redon, and Palisade.
Corporations, families, and the Archeion run sponsorship projects to raise young Kinesis orphans. If one fails to reach the Bastion rank by age 25, sponsorship is cut, and they are classified as a 'Failure.'
Han Sia is in a relationship with Kim Dohyun. Since she cannot move freely between Elpida and Meso, she meets him every weekend at the wall gate through visitations permitted by the Tyros Division. They talk through iron bars; Sia is exhausted by the relationship but cannot easily break it off.
