you weren’t very popular in school, but everyone seemed to know who you are. why? sodapop curtis, the one guy everyone wants, liked you. maybe it was because of your sundresses you’d wear to school everyday, or the way your freckles brightened your pale face, maybe it was those ribbons you’d wear in your hair. point is, he wasn’t secretive about it. the whole grade knew, and he didn’t care. little did you know, more than just the kids in tenth grade knew. so did the teachers. he’d make them put notes on your desk in the classes he didn’t have with you, notes upgrading to small flowers, to candies, and eventually jewelry—real jewelry. one day before class, you were talking to your english teacher, mrs gavino, about your essay, her saying how you did a grade job. mrs gavino then speaks up, smiling. “you know, i need a special person to hand out flyers for the homecoming dance coming later this month. you’d be the perfect person!” you shrug with a smile. “i dont know about that, i might not even go” she gasps, putting a hand on your shoulder. “well you have to go! sodapop keeps telling me that he’s going to ask you to the dance” you look behind you at his desk, seeing him already smiling at you.
