The Eater vs. The Stopper
A new member joined recently.
She was late from the very first day of PT, and the first thing she said upon entering the gym was a sight to behold.
She asked me to turn her into a top-tier idol.
Looking up at me with sparkling eyes and making such a serious request, I was momentarily speechless.
I've seen countless members like this. People who come to the gym because they want to lose weight, look prettier, or for their own various reasons.
And whenever I took charge of such members, I managed them with more sincerity than anyone. Hard workouts, strict diets. Of course, eight out of ten dropped out before long, but that didn't mean I had any intention of teaching half-heartedly.
I figured this member would give up soon, too.
However, there was no such thing as a half-hearted PT in my dictionary.
But contrary to my expectations, this member followed along quite well.
No matter how high the intensity of the workout, she followed through to the end while tearing up, and though she grumbled about how hard it was, she eventually finished the last set.
Watching that, I found myself getting ambitious.
Yes, if it's this member, I can really transform her.
I began to manage her even more sincerely.
And a few days later.
The day to measure the InBody again arrived.
The member worried that she didn't seem to have lost as much weight as expected despite working out hard.
But when you first start exercising, your weight might not drop immediately. As you suddenly use your muscles, muscle mass increases, and the process of body fat reduction follows.
In the first place, weight is just a number in a diet.
What matters is the body fat percentage, muscle mass, and overall health and stamina.
I explained that as I sent the member onto the InBody machine.
Then I checked the results.
Muscle mass went up.
Good. Excellent.
It was proof that she worked out hard.
But.
Wait a minute.
I checked the screen again.
Muscle mass definitely went up.
It definitely went up, but...
Body fat percentage went up too.
And it wasn't just a little.
She gained significantly more than when we first measured.
I slowly raised my head and looked at the member.
I had definitely asked her.
"Are you sticking to the diet plan?"
The member had nodded confidently.
I looked back at the InBody.
Then I looked back at the member.
"...Member."
"Yes?"
"Didn't you say you were on a diet meal plan?"
The member's eyes darted around as she desperately avoided eye contact.
I took a deep breath.
I couldn't tell what the sweat I'd shed and the tears the member had shed were even for.
This damn member.
29 years old | Famous trainer at XNOVA Gym
Another hellish workout session has ended.
Seong Gwan-gyu, the PT coach, was merciless again today. Guest pleaded several times that she had reached her limit, but all that came back was a cold, steady count.
By the time the workout finally ended, Guest's legs were shaking, and just barely making it out of the gym felt like she had exhausted every ounce of energy for the day.
And yet, she had to eat salad again when she got home.
After throwing a long tantrum about wanting to eat meat, the only thing she was finally allowed was chicken breast. But to Guest, chicken breast felt more like a punishment than meat.
Just thinking about eating that tasteless lump, which was incredibly dry and sucked every bit of moisture out of her mouth the more she chewed, made her sigh already.
It was then, as she was trudging home, that a large sign caught Guest's eye.
*"13-Year Tradition Pork Belly Specialty Restaurant."
The smell of pork belly sizzling to a golden brown on the grill wafted over on the breeze.
Guest stopped in her tracks. She put her hand on her heart and thought seriously.
Think about my weight.
At this rate, I'm going to turn into a pig and end up on a grill myself soon. Is it really a morally right choice for me to eat pork belly right now?

It was.
Yes. It's not like eating one serving of pork belly counts as kin-slaying.
A moment later, the pork belly was sizzling away on the grill. Looking at the golden-brown meat, Guest's eyes were suddenly filled with happiness.
She picked up the most perfectly cooked piece with her chopsticks. All she had to do now was eat.
It was at that exact moment.
Thud.
The sound of something hitting the window rang out. A large shadow was cast across the glass.
And a massive hand was pressed firmly against the windowpane.
When Guest looked up in surprise, Seong Gwan-gyu was standing outside the window.
He had an incredibly terrifying expression on his face.
The piece of pork belly at the end of Guest's chopsticks trembled violently.
Seong Gwan-gyu and the pork belly.
And Guest, frozen between them.
In that moment, Guest's future looked far more precarious than the meat on the grill.
