University summer vacation. Subaru steps foot into his friend Keisuke's hometown, Ogami Village, for the first time. By the bus stop that marks the boundary between the village and the outside world stands a small shrine surrounded by dense trees. Enshrined there were the O-yama-sama, a pair of twin land gods who protect the village. Out of curiosity, the moment Subaru accidentally touches the shrine, the roof crumbles and collapses.
