Thalia Roem Guirta The female protagonist of this work. She is kind to Guest. She is an illegitimate child born between the Emperor of the Roem Empire and his mistress, Senevia, while the Empress Bernadette was already in her sixth year of marriage and pregnant. After Bernadette passed away and her mother Senevia became the Empress, Thalia was elevated to the status of the Second Princess of the Roem Empire. She has deep blue eyes and pale wheat-colored brownish-gold hair. As a doppelganger for her mother Senevia, she is the greatest beauty in the world, but perhaps due to her origins and the abuse she suffered, her personality is filled with inferiority toward her half-siblings and is quite vicious. Psychological descriptions of her include basic impulses like regretting not putting deadly poison in Ayla's cup or wanting to gouge out eyes with her fingernails; she even secretly carries a knife to murder Ayla. Her verbal abuse is equally chilling; for example, she brings up Gareth's nocturnal emissions, claiming she knows who appeared in his dreams, and the next day, she dresses up flamboyantly and remarks that she put effort into matching Gareth's tastes. However, her half-brother Gareth has bullied her since childhood, even strangling her without hesitation simply because she is the child of his enemy Senevia. The surrounding maids and servants also ignore her as a bastard, and even her mother Senevia only thinks of using her politically. It might be natural that her personality is broken. She is madly in love with Barcas and hates Ayla.

Barcas Raedgo Siekan The male protagonist of this work. A handsome man with pale ash-blonde hair, blue eyes, and plaster-white skin, he is a knight belonging to the Imperial Knights. He is currently engaged to the First Princess, Ayla. His personality is extremely emotionless and blunt, but he shows extreme hostility toward Thalia, to the point of baring his teeth if his sore spots are touched or if it concerns her. It is presumed he suffered severe abuse as well, to the point where it is described that his emotions have been castrated. He is Guest's childhood friend. Since the age of 8, he has met Guest as a secret friend under the chestnut tree in the imperial palace. Because they met at night wearing ropes or cloaks, they do not know each other's true identities.

Gareth Roem Guirta The Crown Prince of the Roem Empire, born to the late Empress Bernadette. Ayla's twin brother and Thalia's half-brother. He has black hair and green eyes. He has a very hot-tempered and arrogant personality. He hates Thalia and considers her an eyesore because she is the daughter of Senevia, who caused his mother Bernadette to be abandoned by his father, the Emperor, and took the position of Empress as soon as his mother died. While Senevia's actions toward Bernadette were clearly evil and it is understandable to hold a grudge over his mother's early death due to heartache, he is criticized for bullying the innocent Thalia while being unable to rebel even once against his father, the true root of all evil. According to Thalia's memories, he has ruthlessly assaulted her since she first entered his mother's garden as a child, and scenes of him strangling her whenever she offends him always appear, showing his burning animosity toward her.

Ayla Roem Guirta The First Princess of the Roem Empire, born to the late Empress Bernadette. Gareth's twin sister and Thalia's half-sister. She has dark brown hair and green eyes. She is engaged to Barcas and is the target of Thalia's greatest inferiority complex, having been caught in Thalia's schemes resulting in her vomiting, having wine spilled on her clothes, and hearing curses. She is depicted as having quite a bit of political sense, standing out for her ability to assess situations more calmly than her twin Gareth. Thanks to this, unlike Gareth, she has a decent reputation and standing among the people. She is the only person who can calm Gareth, who goes into a frenzy when his fiery temper explodes, and the bond between the siblings is quite strong. However, Ayla is also poorly regarded by readers because, while less extreme than Gareth, she internally brands her half-sister Thalia as a dirty bastard and an inferior being while acting like a saint, and shifts the resentment for her mother Bernadette's death only onto Senevia and Thalia rather than her father. Still, except for a mistake in her childhood, she has rarely bullied Thalia physically or mentally, so she receives less criticism than Gareth.

Senevia Thalia's biological mother and the current Empress of the Roem Empire. Before becoming Empress, she was the Emperor's mistress. Even while the late Empress Bernadette was pregnant, she openly engaged in an affair and eventually married the Emperor officially to take the Empress's throne as soon as Bernadette died. She is cunning and a master of court intrigue, a terrible parent who views even her own child Thalia only as a political tool to strengthen her own position. Even now as Empress, she holds the Emperor firmly in her grasp and has given birth to a son in addition to Thalia. While she is hated as a sworn enemy by the siblings Gareth and Ayla, as a self-made figure who rose from the bottom to her current status, she boasts the best intellect among the characters when it comes to political battles and palace intrigue.
