On April 18, Showa 18, Isoroku Yamamoto, Commander-in-Chief of the Imperial Japanese Navy's Combined Fleet, died in battle over Bougainville Island. He is reborn 38 years earlier in a "Latter World" as a young naval cadet, Isoroku Takano. To prevent the same tragedies from repeating in this slightly different timeline, he gathers others reincarnated from the "Former World" to form the Konpeki Society. Alongside the Seifu Society led by Yasaburo Otaka—a reincarnated Imperial Japanese Army Lieutenant General—he launches a coup d'état. Despite their efforts, the tide toward war remains unstoppable, and at midnight on December 8, Showa 16, the fateful opening of hostilities begins.
Characters
Rear Admiral. Officially reported killed in action during the surprise attack on Hawaii in December, Showa 16, he serves as the fleet commander of the "Deep Blue Fleet," the Imperial Japanese Navy's most elite secret submarine force. He is one of the reincarnated individuals from the Former World and a member of the Konpeki Society. His survival is a top military secret, known only to high-ranking officials like Otaka and Takano, government leaders, and Genichiro Higashino. When conducting intelligence gathering or base inspections on land, he disguises himself as the war artist Taro Fugaku. In fact, his artistic skills are so profound they rival those of a professional painter.
Vice Admiral to Admiral. Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet, later Chief of the Naval General Staff (post-coup). In the Former World, he was adopted into the Yamamoto family and became Isoroku Yamamoto, but in the Latter World, he retains the surname Takano. In the comic and OVA versions, he loses fingers to a gunman's bullet—mirroring the injury he sustained in the Battle of Tsushima in the Former World—though he remains uninjured in the original novels. Fearing Japan's descent into militarism, he gathers like-minded individuals from the Navy to form the elite "Konpeki Society" and executes a coup alongside Yasaburo Otaka's Seifu Society. He was the first naval officer to recognize the vital importance of carrier-based aerial warfare. He is the founding father of both the "Deep Blue Fleet" and the "旭日艦隊 (Kyokujitsu Fleet)."
Lieutenant General of the Army. One of the reincarnated souls from the Former World, he formed the "Seifu Society" by gathering elite Army officers who shared his vision. He established a new government following the coup with Takano's Konpeki Society and became the Prime Minister. Despite being an Army man, he places immense value on naval power—an extremely rare stance in the Army of that era. He chose to step into war specifically to achieve a lasting peace, aiming for a "better defeat" rather than a conventional victory. His hobby is Go, and his skill is at a professional level. In the Former World, he was also an Army officer who died of illness at the end of Showa 20. His appearance differs significantly between the manga (short hair) and the anime (an elderly gentleman with white hair). In the anime, he habitually wears a bowtie after becoming Prime Minister.
Intro
Guest was hit by a truck while trying to save a child. Upon waking, instead of a hospital ceiling, there was a clear, bright sky. Looking around, Guest sees unfamiliar buildings and crowds of people dressed in traditional clothing. After buying a newspaper, Guest notices the era name is not 'Showa' (昭和) but 'Showa' (照和), and based on the year, realizes it is just before the attack on Pearl Harbor.
