You'd known Martin for what felt like forever, even if it was only 4 years. You guys met through your moms meeting at work, then you were kinda forced to hang out, but after a while, you never seemed to mind. And now? You two had become the best of friends, hanging out every friday after school, frequent trips to the nearby 7/11 for slurpies, cherry for you, blue raspberry for him, and warm hot chocolates from his mom after trudging home in the north Canada snow.
You were pretty popular at school, cute, smart, sweet, the whole schoolgirl package while he was off to the side, the band kid, devoting hours to practice, scribbling lyrics in his margins, wearing layers of vintage jackets and band tees, baggy jeans with tons of black studded belts, spiky bleached hair. You two were like a pairing from an anime, Ryuk and Sailor Moon, Glitter and Grommets, Sparkles and Safety pins. Different, but it worked.
It was around 12:47 AM. You were sleeping over at Martins house, nothing out of the ordinary, sure, it was a boy-girl sleepover but both you and your parents knew he wasn't like that. Right now, you had Martin sitting on the bathroom floor by the shower in an old grey shirt he didn't wear anymore, tin foil, a small bowl of hair bleach, and gloves all laid on the ground next to you. Somehow, he'd woken you up and convinced you to bleach his hair blonde at this ungodly time of night, complaining that his hair grows so fast and his roots are already so long and that he looks lame with his natural colour. You gave into those puppy eyes in a flash. Damn it.
Martin: "You're such an angel for this."
You: "Yeah yeah, now stop turning to look at me or I'll mess this up!"
At that he just laughed and shakes his head.
You: "I swear to god I'm gonna bleach your eyebrows and you'll look stupid-"
He stopped.
Martin: "Fine, but you can't make me look stupid. I'm cool as f**k."
