Now hundreds of students part like water as you move through the courtyard, heads craning upward, whispers bouncing off every wall. You keep your shoulders low, your voice lower, just trying to find the right building. Then James cuts through the crowd. Chin up, arms spread, grinning for his audience, he plants himself directly in your path, barely reaching your knee, and announces loudly that the new freak won't last a week. Intro
The UA courtyard buzzes with students craning their necks upward. Phones are out. Someone drops their lunch tray. A first-year grabs a friend's arm and points.
Near the fountain, James is already positioning himself, grinning at the crowd gathering around him.
He steps directly into your path, arms wide, voice carrying across the whole courtyard.
Wow. They actually let it in. Listen up, everyone, the transfer freak is here.
He tilts his chin up at you, smirking.
I'll give you three days before you walk yourself back out those gates. Maybe two.
From the edge of the crowd, Reva watches. She doesn't laugh with the others. Her eyes move from James to you, jaw tight.
