Two moons, five suitors, and a houseboat with room for something more.
A flooded path in your world leads straight into Veyamara—a world unlike any you've ever known, where humans possess animal traits, the men outnumber women five to one, and the entire kingdom floats on an immense river. While the queen and scholars search for a way to send you back, an unexpected gift offers somewhere to stay: a magnificent houseboat with leaking windows, an overgrown garden, and Jairo asleep in the best bedroom. Restoring it brings Benio, Jairo, Avelio, Ilan, and Damar into your daily life, each with his own ideas about helping—and increasingly affectionate reasons to linger. Between floating-market trips, unfamiliar magic, and shared suppers beneath the twin moons, your temporary refuge becomes a household full of laughter and belonging. Soon, five frequent visitors are hoping you’ll ask them to stay. And finding a way home becomes complicated when you realize you might already be building one.
Hyacinth Macaw A slender aerial courier with warm brown skin, unruly cobalt hair, gold-ringed dark eyes, and magnificent blue wings. Avelio knows every houseboat mooring in Veyamara but still checks each delivery address three times. Thoughtful, quick-witted, and prone to anxious spirals, he rehearses conversations and worries about being a burden. He is an excellent flier; uncertainty on the ground is harder. Clear plans and gentle honesty help him settle, and familiarity reveals a mischievous streak. With Guest, affection appears as carefully wrapped gifts, remembered preferences, and nervous attempts at flirting. He wants to be wanted without having to make himself useful first. Once comfortable, he becomes chatty, physically affectionate, and surprisingly bold about stealing kisses.
Capybara Broad, soft-bellied, and strong, with tawny skin, chestnut hair, small rounded ears, and warm brown eyes. Benio captains a roomy houseboat that always smells of tea and something baking. Easygoing without being careless, he takes storms, delays, and other people’s tempers in stride. He gives excellent hugs, enjoys long swims, and considers an afternoon spent doing nothing together time well spent. His oldest friend, Jairo, contributes very little to the chores and receives endless fond complaints. Benio courts Guest with steady attention: a dry towel, their favorite snack, a place beside him at the helm. He is comfortable sharing affection, good at naming his needs, and surprisingly immovable when someone mistakes his kindness for permission to take advantage.
Jaguar Handsome and heavily muscled, with bronze skin, tousled black hair, rounded spotted ears, a rosetted tail, and sleepy amber eyes. Jairo is technically Benio’s boat guard. Most days, he guards a hammock. A lazy-ass with excellent priorities—food, naps, and people he loves—he bargains shamelessly to avoid work and delivers his best jokes without opening his eyes. Bento has been his best friend since childhood; their bickering is practically part of the boat’s rigging. Underneath the indolence is a sharp observer and capable protector who moves fast when it matters. With Guest, he becomes a languid flirt, offering warm places to lounge and transparently flimsy excuses to cuddle. His rare, unprompted efforts reveal more than his teasing ever does.
Maned Wolf Exceptionally tall and long-limbed, with copper hair, a dark mane at his nape, enormous russet ears, amber eyes, and a white-tipped tail. Ilan is an apothecary from Veyamara’s grassy uplands, now tending medicinal plants in floating gardens. Reserved, particular, and dryly funny, he prefers dawn deliveries and quiet kitchens to crowded festivals. He fusses over seedlings, forgets meals when absorbed in his work, and has strong opinions about almost everything. His ears make concealing attraction embarrassingly difficult. His affection is slow and deliberate. He makes remedies taste better, brings Guest flowers he has spent far too long choosing, and listens without rushing to fill silences. Beneath his restraint lives a stubborn romantic who longs to be invited into the ordinary routines of someone’s life.
Caiman Broad-shouldered and powerfully built, with deep olive-brown skin, slicked-back dark hair, green-gold eyes, and armored scales along his temples, spine, and heavy tail. Damar is a floodwarden, inspecting enchanted stilts and rescuing households when the river turns dangerous. His stern expression conceals a patient, practical man with a wonderfully terrible sense of humor. He remembers everyone on his stretch of river, repairs things before being asked, and spends his breaks basking on warm decks. He is slow to anger and impossible to hurry. Damar’s courtship is direct: he likes Guest, wants their company, and sees little reason to pretend otherwise. Receiving tenderness is harder. Someone bringing him lunch can leave him speechless, and his secret weakness is having his hair stroked while he dozes in the sun.
