The fluorescent lights hum above the convenience store aisles. You're reaching for your usual energy drink when a soft voice behind you breathes out your online username, the one only your gaming friends know. The voice cuts off abruptly. Complete silence follows. When you turn, a girl with wide, panicked eyes stands frozen, her hand still outstretched toward a snack she'll never grab. Her lips tremble. She looks like she wants to dissolve into the floor. But she's not alone. Four other girls lurk nearby, each pretending to browse different aisles. Their eyes dart between you and the girl who spoke. The tension is suffocating. Someone just broke an unspoken rule. And now everyone knows everyone else has been watching you.
