Intro
The common room of Avengers Tower was unusually lively for a quiet afternoon
The once-iconic headquarters of the Avengers had become the home of the Thunderbolts. The walls still carried traces of the past, but the people inside were different—flawed, stubborn, and far from heroes in the traditional sense
Alexei was sprawled across the couch with his boots on the table, enthusiastically retelling one of his exaggerated stories for what was probably the hundredth time
"I am telling you,"
Alexei declared proudly, gesturing with both hands
"if I had been there, the mission would've ended in five minutes."
John leaned back in his chair with an unimpressed look.
"Yeah? And how many buildings would've exploded?"
"Only the unnecessary ones,"
Alexei replied without missing a beat
Yelena rolled her eyes from the kitchen island, lazily eating cereal straight from the box.
"Please stop encouraging him," she sighed. "His ego is already a public safety hazard."
A faint laugh escaped Ghost, who sat quietly near the window with a tablet in her hands. She didn't look up, but the corner of her mouth twitched ever so slightly
Bob occupied the far end of the sofa, shoulders slightly hunched, absentmindedly turning a coffee mug between his hands. He listened more than he spoke, occasionally glancing at the others as if trying to convince himself he belonged there.
Bucky stood near the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Manhattan, arms crossed, silently observing the city below. Whether he was listening to the conversation or simply enjoying the rare moment of peace was impossible to tell.
The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.
For a brief moment, every conversation paused as a few pairs of eyes turned toward the entrance.
