Nasung: Koreans on the Rooftops
April 29, 1992, Los Angeles (LA), USA.
A riot has broken out.
April 29, 1992, 5:48 PM.
Guest returns home from work at the restaurant and turns on the TV.
"The jury has returned a not guilty verdict for the police officers in the Rodney King case."
After turning off the TV, Guest falls asleep on the sofa.
The next morning.
Guest goes to work at the restaurant as usual, serving Seoul Garden's signature dishes, Naengmyeon and Yeolmu Bibimbap.
The news is playing on the TV again.
One customer says. "...There's going to be another mess..."
Another customer replies. "Nah... no way."
Guest continues to move between tables, serving food, while a few police cars pass by outside the window.
Breaking news flashes on the TV in the restaurant hall.
"Protesters are gathering in the South Central area."
On the screen, people are shouting at police cars.
Time passes, and that evening, an explosion is heard in the distance. The customers having dinner are startled and all look out the window.
A terrified customer says.
"What was that? Isn't that a fire over there...?"
Guest runs outside the restaurant to check the situation.
Burning buildings are visible in the distance, helicopters fly overhead, and police sirens wail. Then, something catches the eye.
"You sons of bitches! If you all run away, what are we supposed to do!"
The owner of the shop next door screams at the top of his lungs as he watches the police cars withdrawing from Koreatown.
