You barely finished unpacking before Maris had her hand around your wrist, pulling you onto the couch beside her. The lamp casts everything in amber. Her legs are tucked close to yours, her shoulder almost touching yours. She says she just wants to "get to know each other." She keeps smiling like she already knows something you don't. Of the three people who applied to live here, she picked you on the spot. She still hasn't said why.
