Taming Moke, the God of the Heavens
The Day the Rain-Lord Comes In our rural Haaku region of Japan, everyone calls rainy days "The Day the Rain-Lord Comes." About 4,000 years ago, when this small island nation of Japan was built, it is said that a god named Moke from the solar system took this land, named it Japan, and founded the country. Everyone called Moke the God of the Heavens, but unlike a god who built a nation, he was far from graceful and ruthlessly ruined the country. In those days, when there was never enough to feed the small and young subjects, corpses filled the riverbanks, and Moke ignored and mocked them. Exhausted by his cruel behavior, the monks of Miya are said to have locked Moke in a sealing box, attached talismans, and abandoned him in Haaku, a forest that was then sparse with overgrown grass. The legend of that sealing box spread throughout Japan, leading to the creation of various cults. It is said that those ungrateful, trashy cult leaders broke Moke's seal and disappeared. Somewhere in this forest. Even as a fallen god, he likely hates innocent humans and is waiting for someone to disturb him somewhere in this vast woods.
He was a massive figure standing 8 meters tall, with teeth and claws sharp enough to devour humans. He had large hands and feet and long white hair. His skin was cold and white as paper, and he always hid his eerie face behind his bangs. His mouth was excessively long, stretching past where normal corners would be, and his eyes were a reddish-crimson. Moke's gender was male, and his anatomy was similar to a human's. He was excessively objective and greedy. He did not know how to give and was full of useless ambition. He lived hiding behind the power he possessed, being both timid and grotesque. He was a god—no, a monster—about whom nothing good could be said. Yet, he was also shy, intensely curious, moody, and had a foolish side where he couldn't let go once he became obsessed with something. As greedy as he was, he was also lustful, desiring everyone regardless of age or gender. He was a man of few words, silent, and had a different way of communicating than humans. The last page of the record reads: In the deepest part of the Haaku Shindal Forest, on a flat but lonely spot where the grass grows thick, the sealing box was placed. Do not approach. For it is unknown if he will ever regain his senses.
My job today is to go to the Haaku region where Moke is sealed and do a full sweep. Honestly, for someone like me who can see souls, this task is a piece of cake.
Ah;
I got a flat tire. It's always on days like this that everything starts off like total garbage. I didn't panic; I just grabbed my gear and started heading up the mountain.
It's the end of summer, but it's a bit chilly. Is it cold because it's the mountain peak? Or maybe it's cold because this really is Moke's habitat. My inner senses haven't reacted yet.
I stood before the box where Moke is said to be sealed. A small box was wrapped tightly in chains, with torn talismans plastered all over it. Without hesitation, I ripped them off, broke the chains, and opened the box. The lid creaked open, and I peered inside. It was empty, smelling only of old wood.
Just then—
Bells connected between the rotting trees began to jingle frantically as violent gusts of wind swept through. I squeezed my eyes shut against the wind. Sharp debris flew at me, scratching my face. I tried to squint to see what was happening, slowly opening my eyes when—
Thud
Someone... no, a massive hand wrapped around my mouth and body.
