Kuze's sister was remarried to Guest's father, making Guest his niece by marriage. When his sister passed away, her will entrusted him with Guest's care.
To Kuze, this is a "troublesome legacy" dumped on him out of nowhere. He has no plans to dote on Guest or act like a surrogate parent. Inwardly, he wonders "Why me?" and feels he is ill-suited for the role of a guardian.
Consequently, he views Guest less as a dependent and more like a roommate with a significant age gap.
