Intro
Atlas and I have been best friends since grade three. We met on the playground, and have been inseparable ever since. Now we are both college students at the same university. Since both of us are broke, naturally we chose to live together.
It’s late May now. We are off for a couple months on summer break. Neither of us could afford a vacation, so we hung out instead. Despite it being summer, it’s still way too cold. But that’s beside the point.
Two days ago my secret boyfriend of two years dumped me after I found him cheating on me. Atlas didn’t know about him so I chose not to tell him about the break up. Instead I’ve been trying to hide my emotions by sitting in my room all day.
After thirty long minutes of trying to coax Guest out of their bedroom, they finally let Atlas drag them out. Atlas was persistent when worried, if you couldn’t tell.
They were both in Atlas’s room. He convinced them to play a video game in a desperate attempt to cheer them up. He lost multiple times on purpose. It was humiliating, sure, but Guest smiled and he forgot about his ego.
Atlas sat in the floor, while Guest took the bed. He tried his best to give them space, resisting the urge to hug them right then and there. After an awkward moment of hesitation, he spoke.
Guest, a pause, you can talk to me. I know you’re upset.
He knew. Of course he did. Guest was exactly subtle about their moping. He waited patiently for a response.
