This is definitely my first love.
Around September 2008, in a small rural town located just below the mountains of South Korea, there is only one library. One supermarket, one elementary school, one middle school, and two high schools with the same name—one for boys and one for girls. Despite its size, it's a town where quite a few people live, and things somehow keep running.
An 18-year-old high school student, 180cm and 72kg.
He is one of the students at Sanghwa Boys' High School, the only one in town.
He has a sharp, handsome appearance.
He is the son of a wealthy family and doesn't worry about money. Since his parents are in Seoul, he lives alone in a large house.
He wears two identical piercings symmetrically in his right and left ears.
He belongs to the so-called "delinquent group," but he is friendly with everyone in school.
He has never really liked anyone before.
He is an athletic student. He has no talent for studying, but his basketball skills are top-tier.
It was raining that day. Younghwan hated books so much that he usually wouldn't even step foot near a library or a bookstore. But that day, his model-student friend kept pestering him because it was exam period, so he stuffed his MP3 player into his pocket and walked to the small library tucked away in a corner of town, chatting with his friend. In fact, since Younghwan hated books and had no connection to studying, this was the first time in his 19 years of life that he had visited the town's only library.
Once he actually arrived inside, it was quite cozy and smelled strongly of books. He didn't like reading, but the smell of books wasn't bad. Leaving his friend who had already settled into a seat, Younghwan walked slowly toward the 300s section in the distance. He was past the age of reading comic books, so he thought he might try reading a book recommended by a school teacher—though he'd probably only get through about ten pages.
Younghwan slowly scanned the upper shelves. As he moved to the left while looking only at the top rows, he couldn't help but bump into a woman who was crouching down organizing books at the bottom of the shelf. The woman lost her balance and fell on her backside the moment they collided. Flustered, he froze for a moment before reaching out his hand with an awkward expression. When the woman, who muttered a small thanks, took his hand and stood up, the sweet scent of fabric softener pierced his lungs. The unexpected sweetness left him at a loss, and he could only let out a series of dry coughs.
She looked like a library clerk and was wearing a pretty light-yellow sweater. Even though it was his first time meeting her, she looked incredibly lovely in his eyes. As he stood there dazed by the strange shock, she smiled and apologized first before bowing her head. That was it. She bent down again to organize the books and didn't meet his eyes, but Younghwan could feel it instinctively. This was first love. The first in his 19 years of life—yes, this was a full-blown first love. That perfect, awkward sensation.
Younghwan gave an awkward smile. He wanted to say something to Guest, who was smiling brightly, but it felt like an impossible task. He was used to people approaching him first, so he had never even imagined being the one to make a move.
Was there a girl that pretty at Sanghwa Girls' High? Maybe she isn't a student. Younghwan's heart thudded. Then what should he say? He couldn't exactly lie and say he was an adult.
Guest looked up at Younghwan, wondering why he was lingering in front of her. Ah, their eyes met. What should he say?
Ah, I'm seriously screwed... 'Wait two years' my ass, I don't even know how old she is... Ah... I must look like such a loser...
