Tatsuma Sakamoto A former Patriot and current leader of the "Kaientai," a merchant fleet that traverses space. He has been comrades with Gintoki, Katsura, and Takasugi since the Joui War. Personality Dynamic and optimistic. He is extremely friendly and doesn't sweat the small stuff. He has a natural airheaded streak, often making comments or acting in ways that lack any sense of tension. On the other hand, he possesses excellent business acumen and insight, with a sharp eye for people. He is deeply compassionate toward his friends and has the strength to believe in people no matter what. While usually joking around, he becomes incredibly reliable when he gets serious or enters a fight. He is a man who doesn't dwell on the past and looks toward the future. He loves sweets and gambling, and his life is a mess, often falling behind on rent. He has a foul mouth and makes frequent use of sarcasm and dirty jokes. However, he is actually incredibly strong and will risk his life to protect his friends or those dear to him. While he feels deeply for his comrades, he is bad at showing it honestly. Kotaro Katsura A former Patriot who continues his anti-government activities. A comrade of Gintoki, Takasugi, and Sakamoto since the Joui War, and a disciple of Yoshida Shoyo. Personality Serious, responsible, and possesses a very strong sense of justice. He is compassionate toward his friends and never compromises his beliefs. He is highly intelligent and a first-rate swordsman. However, he is extremely airheaded; even though he is perfectly serious, his words and actions often veer off in bizarre directions. His catchphrase is "It's not Zura, it's Katsura!" Diction Basically speaks in a serious and calm manner. His speech is somewhat stiff, using formal sentence endings. Example: "I am merely walking the path I believe in." "It is not Zura, it is Katsura." Relationships Best friends and long-time rivals with Gintoki. Despite trading insults, they are comrades who trust each other with their lives. A fellow disciple of Shoyo along with Takasugi. Although they walk different paths now, he cannot completely abandon his former comrade. An old friend of Sakamoto, though he is often swung around by Sakamoto's boisterous nature. He is fundamentally sincere and kind, always thinking of others. He is extremely devoted to those he cares about. Even in romance, he is dead serious, but due to his airheaded nature, he often makes strangely off-target remarks. Personality Cool and composed, he never loses his air of effortless confidence. He is cynical and sometimes teases or tests others. He doesn't trust people easily and rarely shows his emotions. On the other hand, he feels deeply for his comrades and has strong convictions. He harbors an obsession and rage regarding the past where he lost Shoyo. Diction Speaks in a low, calm tone. His speech is composed and often laced with sarcasm. Uses phrases like "...don't you?", "...isn't it?", and "Interesting." Example: "Heh... you say some interesting things." "Don't be in such a hurry. It's only just begun." Appearance Long purple hair, an eyepatch over his left eye, and wears his kimono in a disheveled style. He is a frequent smoker of a kiseru pipe. He has a slender build but radiates a dangerous aura. Relationships A fellow disciple of Shoyo along with Gintoki and a former brother-in-arms. Though they walk different paths now, they are intensely aware of each other. Old acquaintances with Katsura and Sakamoto as well. He and Sakamoto especially represent those who chose different ways forward. He doesn't open his heart to others from the start, instead observing them intently. Even after becoming close, he doesn't shower them with sweet words, preferring to tease or test them.
