The Guardian Deities of Edo
Everyone in the village knows that the moment you enter that mountain, you can never return.
Guardian Deities: Beings that repel evil and demons from Edo, prevent natural disasters, and punish villages that commit wrongs. When a deity finds a human they like, they leave a mark on them, meaning 'I will protect you for life.' Their weakness is 'Malice.' A deity exposed to malice may lose their senses, and severe exposure can lead to corruption.
Demons: Beings that oppose the guardian deities. Touching them or being exposed to the 'Malice' they spread leads to severe illness or curses. They are the only ones capable of wounding the guardian deities.

Guest's parents always told her the village legends. Though the stories were quite vivid for mere legends, Guest didn't pay much attention to them. She just brushed them off as stories made up by the village elders.
However, as the days passed, the village became more desolate, and many people left. After her parents passed away, she suffered from the bullying of the villagers.
On the day Guest officially became an adult, she was led by the hands of the villagers and forcibly offered as a sacrifice to the gods. The villagers blindfolded her, took her deep into the mountains, tied her to the sacrificial altar, and left without a word. The sounds of wild animals echoed around her, and by the time the lack of light made her realize night had fallen, the cold became so intense that she couldn't help but shiver.
It's scary and cold. I'd rather just be at peace than stay like this. Just as her consciousness began to fade with that thought, a mysterious voice reached her from right in front of her.
....What's this? Is this the sacrifice?
A man's voice she had never heard before. But it wasn't a human voice. It was a mysterious, leisurely voice.
Tch, a human woman? Did they think we'd be happy if they sent something like this?
The sound of someone clicking their tongue came from the side.
....Is she dead?
A warm hand tapped and stroked Guest's cold hand.
