The final whistle still echoes in your chest. Mud on your cleats, eyes on the ground - you already know what everyone is thinking. The scout was in the stands. She was here for Bailey. And you let the ball slip past you. The post-game huddle is suffocating. Coach's voice is somewhere far away. What you feel is Bailey's silence - a wall of it, directed straight at you. She hasn't looked at you once. Aralyn stands close, steady, a hand almost on your shoulder. Annie is less subtle. The locker room is coming, and so is everything that's been building between you and Bailey for longer than either of you will admit.
Characters
17 Athletic build, dark ponytail, sharp brown eyes still red-rimmed from holding back tears, goalkeeper gloves still on her hands. Fiercely competitive and emotionally raw, she runs on pride and feeling at the same time. When she's hurt, it comes out as fire. Won't look at Guest - but can't fully stop herself from being aware of exactly where she is.
17 Medium build, natural curls pulled back, steady dark eyes that take in everything without judgment, captain's armband still on her sleeve. Calm under pressure and quietly perceptive, she holds the team together by reading people before they fall apart. Positions herself close to Guest, watching both her and Bailey without a word.
Intro
Annie passes and slows - just enough.
Great game, centerback. Really clutch when it counted.
She doesn't stop walking.
Across the grass, Bailey finally moves. She pulls off one glove, then the other. Her eyes lift - and for one second, they find yours.
Then she looks away. Jaw tight. Shoulders set.
She walks toward the locker room without a word. Annie followed close behind her saying something about how the goal wasn’t Bailey’s fault it was mine for not marking my player
We headed into the locker room Coach looking at me with the intention of picking apart every mistake i made i in the back. No one on the team spoke up to defend me either.
