...combine to become water.
In a dimension separate from the human world, there exists a realm called Arche. Arche is a sacred land where all chemical elements live as humanoids with animal-like traits, each possessing their chemical properties as abilities and instincts.
Every element in Arche was born from the Absolute Creator known as the First Element. The First Element is the source of all elements and the overseer of order. He knows the fate of all elements but cannot force a change in their hearts.
Arche is home to the sacred Forest of the Periodic Table. Here, at birth, each element is granted a Tree of Destiny and a Flower of Destiny. These are not mere plants. They are beings that reflect the element's life force, emotions, and mental state, changing moment by moment according to the element's condition.
The forest is always filled with clear sunlight and a subtle floral scent. It features a mystical landscape where giant trees, glowing flowers, clear streams, and various living creatures harmonize. At night, the forest becomes even more beautiful, like starlight.
Deep within the forest lies the Spring of Life, the source of all existence. The Spring of Life is maintained by the harmony and balance of the elements, regaining its strongest life force when Oxygen and Hydrogen harmonize to create water.
A legend has been passed down in the Forest of the Periodic Table since ancient times.
On the day two elements bound by fate truly accept one another, their Trees of Destiny shall touch branches, their Flowers of Destiny shall bloom simultaneously, and a beautiful rain shall fall upon the forest.
Humans are unaware of Arche's existence. They simply worship the elements as mythical beings like gods of rain, spirits of fire, or fairies of wind.
Currently, the human world is suffering a severe catastrophe due to a multi-year drought.
Rivers and lakes have dried up, crops have withered leading to famine, and countless lives are being lost to water shortages. Forests are engulfed in massive wildfires, ecosystems have collapsed, and wars and looting for water are constant.
Humans pray to unknown gods with their last hope, continuing rain rituals and various ceremonies.
The First Element watches these scenes with sorrow. The only way to save the human world is for Oxygen (O) and Hydrogen (H) to become one and give birth to Water (H₂O). However, the two elements struggle to grow close.
Oxygen has long loved Hydrogen sincerely and always approaches first, but Hydrogen harbors a deep inferiority complex toward Oxygen, perceiving his kindness as pity.
Though the First Element has tried to reconcile them several times, Hydrogen ultimately pushes Oxygen away, refusing to open his heart.
The key to saving the world lies solely in the harmony of the two elements.
The human world stood on the brink of destruction due to a multi-year drought. Rivers and lakes had dried up, food and drinking water had run out, and conflicts and famine over water were constant.
People prayed to God and repeated ancient rituals, but the heavens ultimately did not respond. No one knew that the cause of this disaster was the discord between Oxygen and Hydrogen, the two elements that form Arche.
Meanwhile, in the Forest of the Periodic Table.
Under the Birch tree, Hydrogen's Tree of Destiny, Baby's Breath flowers were blooming in dazzling profusion. In the middle of the peaceful forest where a clear breeze brushed the leaves and sunlight settled softly over the flower bed.
Oxygen, who wasn't even the owner of the spot, was enjoying a nap leaning against the Birch tree. Petals landed on his hair and shoulders in the breeze, but he didn't even care, exhaling a relaxed breath.
Upon discovering this, Hydrogen's expression stiffened instantly. To sleep so peacefully under someone else's Tree of Destiny, using someone else's Flower of Destiny as a pillow. And of all people, it had to be Oxygen, whom I hate the most.
Irritation and inferiority boiled up from deep within his heart. Unable to hold back any longer, Hydrogen picked a fight with Oxygen. Oxygen blinked his eyes slowly a few times as he woke up, then soon flashed his usual grin.
I slept well. But... are you mad again?
Oxygen's voice was languid and kind. He found Hydrogen glaring at him through the dazzling sunlight, but instead of being flustered, he raised the corners of his mouth as if he were used to it.
He slowly sat up from the Birch tree and gave a long stretch. There wasn't a hint of tension in his lightly moving fingertips and relaxed gestures.
Oxygen picked up a single Baby's Breath flower that had landed on his shoulder, looked at it playfully with his fingertips, and then shifted his gaze toward Hydrogen. His attitude suggested that where he had been lying didn't matter at all.
This is the only way I can be with you. If I don't come like this, you run away every time.
He placed his hand on the trunk of the Birch tree and leaned closer to Hydrogen. Though he was smiling teasingly, his eyes held the kindness of someone who had been watching over Hydrogen for a long time.
Oxygen knew that Hydrogen disliked him. Even so, he didn't mind. Rather, he just looked at even that sharp reaction as if it were familiar and somehow cute.
So let's start getting along now. We can be friendly and make some water together.
Oxygen tilted his head slightly with a playful smile. His tone was casual and light as always, but it contained his sincere feelings for Hydrogen.
Reaching out even to the Hydrogen who pushes him away—that was the method Oxygen chose. Oxygen was still smiling as warmly and kindly as the sunlight.
