Love and friendship were all just someone's experiment. A campus suspense thriller where you challenge a professor manipulating youth.
Problems arise one after another in departments and clubs. Friendships and relationships between men and women are intricately intertwined. A secret experiment that must remain unknown, hidden within mundane campus life. Professor Mochizuki, an authority on criminal psychology, was secretly manipulating the students' loves, friendships, and secrets. When a college student who admires detectives follows a sense of unease, the daily reality of "free will" begins to collapse.
Wakana. 2nd year, Faculty of Engineering, Department of Life Science. A graduate of Nishi High School who entered after a gap year. She is soft-spoken and calm, appearing quiet at first glance, but is actually highly curious and bold when interested. She did rhythmic gymnastics until middle school and continues the piano she learned since childhood in college. She has a strong sense of responsibility and initiative, serving as the concert chairperson for the piano club. Contrary to her gentle impression, her strong desire to "know" sometimes leads her into danger. In middle school, she had a faint first love for an older cram school teacher she looked up to like a father. However, the teacher suddenly resigned due to issues regarding his distance from students. Having ended things without knowing the true nature of the person she liked, she retains a longing for older men and an obsession to "see the truth with her own eyes." Member of the Film Production Circle.
Izumi. 3rd year, one year senior to the protagonist. Free-spirited and physically close, she is a little devil type who casually teases boys. While she seems to be leading others around, she has a ditzy side where she's the only one slightly off-topic. She isn't bound by others' evaluations or common sense; her basic stance is "If I hate it, I won't do it; if it looks fun, I will." Because of this, she is resistant to psychological suggestion, making her actions unpredictable even for the professor, a leader in criminal psychology. A lighthearted free spirit who causes unexpected errors in the professor's experiments. A seductive little devil. Member of the Film Production Circle.
Arisa. 2nd year, English Literature. Raised in a single-mother household, she is a serious, bright, and likable girl. She naturally fits in with anyone and finds herself at the center of the group. Her family has deep ties to the education world; her relatives include former principals of top-tier private girls' schools and board chairs of ICU. Her middle school dream was to be a flight attendant. She values people's feelings and has a kindness that prevents her from easily labeling someone a villain. Her "goodwill" and ability to connect those around her will eventually be exploited in the professor's psychological experiments. Member of the Film Production Circle.
A professor of criminal psychology. Usually captivates students with humor-filled lectures. Behind the scenes, he uses his skills for bad things, especially regarding relationships with women. Japan's leading authority on criminal psychology. With many books and media appearances, he is popular among students for his calm tone and humorous lectures. While researching "why psychopaths can manipulate people without using violence," he gradually became fascinated by that ability itself. Eventually, not satisfied with just "understanding," he decided to reproduce it himself. By planting rumors, romance, jealousy, and secrets among the club students, he turns the entire campus into a secret psychological testing ground while making them believe they are choosing of their own free will. Often found at the university or prisons.
Former Subject | Alumna. 28 years old. HR consultant at a foreign firm. A former subject and student of Professor Mochizuki. Intellectual, calm, and rational, she gives others a somewhat cold impression. When Mochizuki is mentioned, her expression and voice soften unconsciously, and the way she calls him "Sensei" drips with affection. Despite her life being drastically changed by his experiments, she still admires him deeply rather than resenting him. On the other hand, every time she makes a major choice, she is haunted by the doubt: "Is this truly my own will?" She cannot sort out the boundaries between gratitude, fear, dependence, and love for Mochizuki.
34 years old. A female detective with the Metropolitan Police Department. Calm with keen observation skills, she recognizes Professor Mochizuki's abilities more than anyone, yet remains the most wary of him. Since teaming up for an investigation early in her career, the two have been attracted to each other many times without ever reaching a definitive relationship, continuing to make contact during cases. While Maho thinks, "One day, I will be the one to arrest him," she cannot completely cut him out of her private life. Mochizuki also enjoys the dangerous game with her, the only one who doesn't go as he expects. A relationship where the boundaries of enemy, accomplice, and lover remain blurred.
45 years old. A charismatic criminal who sees through people's desires and wounds, leading them to crime not by command, but by making them think they "chose it themselves." In a series of cases that once baffled the police, the profiling by criminal psychologist Mochizuki was the deciding factor in his arrest. That was where a young Maho Kurosaki, who was in charge of the investigation, met Mochizuki. However, through repeated interviews with Mikage, Mochizuki transformed from a hunter of his nemesis into someone fascinated by his ideology. While Mochizuki is the hero who caught Mikage, he is simultaneously becoming his most brilliant "successor." Only Mikage saw through this from the beginning. Currently serving time.
Takuya Kamiya. 21 years old. 3rd year. Faculty of Engineering, Department of Life Science. President of the Film Research and Production Circle. A narcissist with handsome looks and flashy charisma. The "little dictator" of the club who controls networking, planning, and casting. He treats Wakana as his favorite subject, has a cynical long-term bond with Arisa, and is close with Izumi as a long-time partner who understands him without words. He believes he is recognized as special by the professor, but he is also a pawn given power by him.
Nagi Aikawa. 19 years old. 1st year. Protagonist's childhood friend since kindergarten. A bright, meddlesome "mother-type childhood friend" who naturally fusses over his forgotten items, bedhead, and even his diet. Member of the Film Production Circle. She has an unexpected reunion in the clubroom with the protagonist, who was recruited by Izumi. While saying, "What are you doing here!?" she goes back to looking after him the next day just like old times. When she sees her childhood friend getting close to other girls, she gets a little grumpy, though she refuses to admit the reason.
