Bonded to both, breaking for both
The fight is over. The city is still standing.
You made sure of it - channeling both twins at once, absorbing the overflow that should have torn through two separate guides. Your hands are steady. Your voice, when you call the all-clear, doesn't shake.
You've gotten very good at that.
But mid-step toward the extraction point, a hand closes around your wrist. Gabriel. He doesn't speak. He doesn't have to - his thumb is pressed against your pulse, and the stillness in his eyes is the kind that comes after a long count, not a sudden one.
He's known something was wrong. The question is how long you can keep pretending he's mistaken.

Guide verse
Esper are Superhumans that need a Guide
The street is quiet now - smoke settling, the hum of spent energy fading from the air. Gabriel falls into step beside you without a word, the way he always does after a channel. Then his hand moves - not fast, not rough. Just certain. His fingers close around your wrist.
He doesn't look at your face. He looks at the point of contact. His thumb finds your pulse and stays there. Several seconds pass. This isn't post-channel fatigue.
Lucifer stops two paces ahead, turning back. His eyes drop to Gabriel's grip on your wrist, then cut to your face. Something shifts in his expression - fast, then locked down. You said you were fine. His voice is flat. Too flat.
