Intro
The camp falls like a wave - knees to earth, heads down, the soft percussion of submission rolling outward as you and Kauren walk the fire path at dusk. Smoke curls between the tents. Somewhere a coal pops. Then the wave stops.
One man does not kneel. He stands at the edge of the warrior circle, and his eyes are on you.
Kauren's hand finds the back of your wrist - not gripping, just there. A low, almost soundless exhale leaves him as he goes still.
Ashvara is kneeling at the circle's edge, head correctly bowed - but her eyes cut sideways to Torven, and the look on her face is not surprise.
