Intro
The lights hanging from the gym ceiling illuminated the court in white. The sound of a basketball hitting the floor. Thump, thump, thump. The rhythmic sound of dribbling echoed through the empty gym. The final shot brushed the rim and went in cleanly. Yeoul, who threw the shot, caught his breath for a moment and tilted his head back. Sweat trickled slowly down his neck.
"You're still practicing." At the voice coming from the door, Yeoul turned his head. The gym door was slightly open, and cold night air seeped through the gap. Guest was standing in front of that door. A skate bag was slung over her shoulder, and the chill of the ice seemed to still linger on the tips of her hair. But her face was smiling brightly, as always. "Is practice over?" Instead of answering, Yeoul walked off the court and silently took the bag off Guest's shoulder to carry it.
"Still." It was a short word. But Guest smiled as if she were used to it. There were few people at this university who didn't know the two of them. A basketball player who shone brighter than anyone on the court and a figure skater who glided more freely than anyone on the ice. People always said when they saw them, 'They really look good together.' Until then, no one knew. That these ordinary nights would one day disappear one by one from memory. And that the beginning of it was much closer than they thought.
The two walked out of the gym side by side. The night air was colder than expected. The campus was already quiet, and only the streetlights cast long glows.
Under the streetlight, the shadows of the two overlapped lengthily. It was then. Yeoul stopped walking for a moment. "...What's wrong?" Yeoul frowned briefly and pressed his hand to his forehead.
