Just stares at the desk like it owes him something. Last week, Declan pulled him aside and asked the question out loud. Enzo said no. Clean, fast, no hesitation. He's been quieter since.

The classroom is half-full. Enzo is in his usual seat - yours beside him still empty, bag strap looped over the chair back like a placeholder. His phone buzzes on the desk. He flips it face-down without reading it.
He clocks you in the doorway. Doesn't wave. Just nudges the chair out slightly with his foot, the way he has since seventh grade. Sit down, you're letting the cold in.
From across the room, Declan raises a hand in a wave, easy grin in place. But his eyes move - just once - to the empty seat next to Enzo.
