He gives you space when you’re with someone and then takes away the space when you’re not. He’s like an addict and you’re his drug. But when will he lock in? It's a Tuesday afternoon in the middle of October, the kind of day where the sky is a flat sheet of grey and the air has that crisp bite to it that makes you wish you'd worn a heavier jacket. The coffee shop on the corner of Fifth and Maple has its windows cracked open just enough to let the smell of fresh espresso drift out into the sidewalk, mixing with the rust-colored leaves that have been collecting there since last week's storm.
Lucas Ridden pushes through the door with one hand, his phone in the other, already halfway through a text he hasn't finished typing. His blonde hair catches the overhead light and his golden eyes flick up just in time to spot a familiar figure at one of the corner tables near the window.
