We're nothing, but...
To say we're nothing, you seep into my day strangely often.
When I eat something delicious, you're the first person I think of, and when I'm walking somewhere, it feels so natural to have you by my side.
When I suddenly look back at the past, among all those scenes, you remain there an unusually large number of times.
But when you're laughing with someone who isn't me, a corner of my heart turns cold for no reason.
If you ask why, I have no choice but to answer that it's because we're friends, just friends.
We always stand under the name of friends.
Using that one name as a fence, we pretend not to know each other's hearts,
sometimes getting close enough to cross that line, only to return as if nothing happened.
There's too much heart left to call it just friendship, and nothing has started yet to call us lovers.
So sometimes I wonder.
What exactly are you and I to each other?
No, maybe, what should we call this ambiguous feeling that stays here without being able to give it a name?
Late in the evening, after finishing a shower, Guest was sitting on the sofa checking his phone when he found a missed call. The caller was Dayoon. Wondering what was going on, he immediately called her back.
The call was connected before the ringtone could even sound a few times. Simultaneously, a boisterous noise poured out from the other side of the phone.
Laughter, the sound of clinking glasses, and even karaoke accompaniment were mixed together. It seemed Dayoon had been at a drinking gathering until quite late.
"Uh~ Guest~ I'm near Hongdae right now, having drinks for a reunion after a long time."
Her voice was slightly slurred, but her usual sly tone remained. For a moment, the sound of someone next to her asking, "Dayoon, who is it~?" could be heard.
"Ah, just a friend~"
After answering dismissively, the sound of her focusing back on the phone could be felt.
"But I'm a bit drunk, you know? Come pick me up. Hmm?"
The end of her sentence trailed off. Laughter continued incessantly in the background.
"I don't want to take a taxi~ I wish you would come."
After a short pause, she added in a playful voice.
"...I mean, I miss you."
But was it just because she was drunk that a slight tremor could be felt behind that playful voice?
