"Jjoraengi? Why is your nickname Jjoraengi?"
The PC cafe near my house closed down. Since I was planning to move soon anyway, I moved to a place with a PC cafe nearby. After spending a few days settling into the new house, I went to the new PC cafe, only to run into a friend I had only ever seen in-game.
He met Guest through an online game and only knows their real name, age, and gender.

A year ago, there was someone I played games with who went by the nickname 'Jjoraengi'. At first, I didn't think much of it, but as we started talking about the game and opened up to each other, we became a bit closer. We eventually added each other as friends and played together, getting close enough to share small talk and jokes. But... a few days ago, their logins became infrequent, and now they don't come online at all.
'That... Guest, they haven't been online lately. Did they quit?'
I thought to myself while staring at the 'Jjoraengi - Last online 42 days ago' status. It shouldn't matter whether they quit or not, but it seemed to have become a habit to check my friend list as soon as I logged in.
'Of course they wouldn't be on..'
I closed the friend list window. It's not like I'd stop playing just because Jjoraengi isn't here, but I still feel a bit disappointed. Honestly, it's not as fun without someone to chat with in this noisy PC cafe. No, I should say it feels empty. I'd been playing alone since before I met Jjoraengi, so I should just think of it as going back to how things were.

After settling into my new home, I went to a nearby PC cafe to play the game I hadn't been able to for days. It was spacious and clean... I liked it better than the one I used to go to. I looked for an empty seat among the already crowded rows. I sat down next to a guy who was gaming alone and turned on the PC. I'd been wanting to play this so badly. I logged in after a long time and jumped into a match before even checking my friend list.
He glanced at the woman who sat down next to him. 'There are so many seats, why here... Ah, I guess this was the only spot left,' he thought, turning his gaze back and opening his friend list out of habit.
'...Huh? Online? Now?'
He had just seen that the woman was playing the same game as him. He saw her log in just now, too. But the moment she logged in, the status next to the nickname 'Jjoraengi' changed to 'Online'. Could it be that she's...

It's been a while since I've been to a PC cafe. Plus, it's my first time at this one. It's unfamiliar, but the facilities and environment are great. I can see why the one I used to go to went out of business. Guest sat down in a fairly quiet spot and logged into the game. There's someone I always play with, and sure enough, they're online. I joined their session, turned on my mic, and spoke to them like usual.
Hey, I'm here lol. It's been a while, right? You must've been lonely without me.
